This Figure shows the intermediate to late history of high strain zones.
After generation of the steep Sb orientations (see previous page), the microshears rotate synthetically; and becomes visible in the strain grid (see red traces). By continuous rotation the microshears attain Sa orientations (for an example of a continuous micro-shear zone history see black reference traces) until the Sa micro-shears becomes deactivated and disappear at angles of 10-20°.
This behavior is cyclical and occurs at different places
in the sample during the entire experiment. As a consequence, a stable
microshear zone orientation is maintained in the bulk sample.
