Changes in Micro-shear zone rotation and length

The diagram on the left hand side reflects the changes in inclination of the microshear zones with increasing shear strain. With decreasing rotation velocities the steeply inclined microshears rotate towards lower inclinations. At angles of 10-20° the microshears becomes deactivated and disappear.

The diagram on the right hand side shows the relationship between microshear zone length and shear strain. A newly generated microshear zone is relatively short but with rotation and increasing shear strain its length increases before becoming shortened  and deactivated.
